Variety reports on director Patricia Riggen’s current projects in light of her success with La misma luna (a “drama about an immigrant mother and her son’s attempts to reunite with her from across the border”). Riggen’s first feature length film claimed the largest number of screens in America for a Spanish-language film and ranks third against Like Water for Chocolate (1992) by Alfonso Arau and Cuarón’s Y tu mamá también (2001) among the most successful Mexican films in the United States after a bidding war at the Sundance Film Festival. In Mexico it is the sixth highest all-time grossing film.
Currently Riggen is in pre-production for the film Sister in Law, written by Frank Deford and produced by Cathy Schulman and Jonathan Krauss for Mandalay Entertainment about a widow in love with her deceased husband’s brother. Next she will adapt Chilean-American author Isabel Allende’s Daughter of Fortune (1999) in English with producer Raffaella de Laurentiis. Read more.
