A National Tribute to Carlos Fuentes

Cuarón will be just one of the world class writers, historians, journalists, and filmmakers who will be taking part in the National Tribute to Carlos Fuentes this November in Mexico City. The renowned novelist and essayist is also the subject of an academic conference at UNAM’s Institute of Philology the week prior. Major cultural and academic institutions across the country will work together to celebrate Fuentes’ 80th birthday. The tribute will take place in a number of venues across the city from 17 to 24 November. Read more.

Meanwhile, the Festival De Cine Expresion En Corto continues in Guanajuato, where American director Spike Jonze spoke of the successes of young Mexican filmmakers over the last ten years, while promoting his 2008 documentary Heavy Metal in Baghdad. Read more.

Jonás Cuarón’s Año uña will show at the Santiago International Film Festival, which will take place between 19 and 25 August in Chile. Read more.
