Morelia and Raindance awards

Los Bastardos wins best picture at Morelia, reports John Hecht for the Hollywood Reporter. The film about two Mexican immigrants in Los Angeles was directed by Amat Escalante and produced by Carlos Reygadas’ company Mantarraya.

Other winners were:

Best documentary – Trazando Aleida (Christiane Burkhard)
Audience award – Cinco días sin Nora (Mariana Chenillo)
Best fiction short – La canción de los niños muertos (David Pablos)
Best animated short – Jacinta (Karla Castañeda)
Best documentary short – Zoogocho (Bernardo Arellano)

Father and son Alfonso and Jonás Cuarón were also present at the 16th edition of the UK indie Raindance Film Festival which closed last week. Among the winners were…

Best UK short: Red Sands (David Proctor)
Best international feature: Estomago (Marcos Jorge)
Best international short: A Juicy Turkey (Benoit Ameil)
