It was so great, and it was something that I really needed. It was after I felt that I was losing my way in Hollywood, and I needed to recharge myself, and inject back the love of why I like cinema in the first place.
It’s a film that I did, one more time, with Emmanuel Lubezki. The point of departure that we took was, “Let’s do the film that we would’ve done if we hadn’t gone or before we went to film school, the film that we would have done if we didn’t know that rules existed,” and that’s the film that we went out to make.
It was such an enjoyable experience. It was a lot of fun because I was working with Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna, and Maribel Verdú, and they were absolutely, absolutely amazing. And now seeing the trailer, they look so young, they are now all grown up, these guys.
